Job Opening for Development Officer in Washington, D.C.
Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation is seeking to hire immediately a Development Officer to solicit major and planned gifts:
The Development Officer is responsible for the cultivating current and prospective major donors and soliciting and administering planned gifts to the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation (a C-3 organization) and the Council for a Livable World (a C-4 organization with an associated political action committee).
This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer and be responsible for actively cultivating donors across the U.S., for helping to identify and develop a solicitation plan for current donor prospects to upgrade their gifts, for actively expanding the major donor prospect group, for expanding the planned giving program, and for utilizing board members and staff to assist in building a larger network of major givers.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a solicitation strategy for major donors and new prospects;
- Execute major elements of the plan, including cultivation and donor "ask" visits
- Coordinate visits with high level donors for the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer;
- Meet and get to know major donors;
- Maintain, enhance, and creatively advance the current program of major gifts fundraising and propose new fundraising campaign strategies;
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all donor visits, interests, relevant fundraising information and next steps in the process within the central donor database;
- Arrange special events for group cultivation of major donors with the Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, including fundraisers in Washington, DC and across the country;
- Coordinate timely dissemination of materials, thank you's and recognitions to major donors;
- Expand and administer planned giving program including bequests and annuities.
Qualifications:
- College degree required;
- 3+ years in fundraising or similar field with a demonstrated track record of successful individual donor solicitation;
- Experience in increasingly cultivating donors or in sales and marketing;
- Strong planning and implementation skills;
- Ability to manage multifaceted workload under broad supervision;
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor;
- Strong computer skills; experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus;
- Experience marketing planned giving programs is a plus;
- Familiarity with and dedication to arms control and national security issues is a plus.
Salary is dependent on qualifications and includes a generous benefits package. Position is in Washington, DC.
